Tom Hanks and newcomer Helena Zengel star in director Paul Greengrass’ adaptation of Paulette Giles solid bestseller. It’s an engaging and period-perfect Old West film, powered by Hanks’ ever-present charm (and talent) and an outstanding performance by the 12-year-old Zengel. Full of compassion, warmth, and an (albeit telegraphed) exquisite sense of cross-generational connection, it’s a sweet and uplifting experience well worth your time.
