Set in 14th century France and directed by Ridley Scott, this gritty and dark period piece relates the true story of two knights (Adam Driver and Matt Damon) who come to literal blows after one is accused of raping the other’s wife. Damon, who co-wrote the script with Ben Affleck and Nicole Holofcener, steers the film with an enigmatic and moving performance, but it’s Jodie Comer who shines brightest, turning in her finest, most nuanced work to date. There’s no doubting the fact that ‘Duel’ is disturbing and very tough to watch at times but its sharp and clever script helps make it truly memorable.
