Proving for the gazillionth time that Tom Hanks can make even the worst thing bearable, Finch arrives on Apple TV+ like a muddled mash-up of Wall-E, Cast Away, and Short Circuit. The premise is simple enough (last man on Earth builds a robot so his dog will be taken care of when he dies), but writers Craig Luck and Ivor Powell couldn’t decide on a genre and instead decided to make a post-apocalyptic, kids, adult, bleak, heartwarming, fun tearjerker. But, hey, Hanks is great.
