Eddie Redmayne’s Charlie Cullen may be the focus of the story, but it’s Jessica Chastain who drives this powerful English-language debut from director Tobias Lindholm. Cullen, who killed hundreds of patients while a nurse in the 90s and early 00s, was finally caught thanks to a fellow caregiver, played by Chastain. This thing is beautifully dark, haunting, and moody (and ultimately horrifying), and it’s also a powerful testament to one person’s ability to bring a real-life monster to justice.
