With a wildly ludicrous coincidence as its main plot point (the two sets of parents of a young couple in love are having—or close to having—affairs with each other, without knowing their relationship to each other), this Nora-Ephron-wannabe is a comedy that never has the legs to get going, much less stay there. The cast is excellent across the board, including Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, Diane Keaton, and William H. Macy, but it winds up feeling like a sexless, joyless attempt at a rom-com that would work better as a one-act play on an off-broadway stage.
