Directed by Kenya Barris (‘black-ish’) and co-written by Jonah Hill, this lazy retread of the fantastic ‘Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner’ may have its heart in the right place, but it collapses under a barrage of tired tropes and the very stereotypes it’s trying to combat. Yes, having Eddie Murphy/Nia Long and David Duchovny/Julia Louis-Dreyfus co-star as the couple’s parents was inspired and does add some much-needed life to the film, but the whole plot hinges on Hill and Lauren London being so in love that they can overcome anything, and frankly, we hardly see it. It may have its moments, but overall ‘You People’ disappoints.
