Kaitlyn Dever stars as community outcast Brynn in this efficient and solid sci-fi/horror flick about an alien invasion in a small town. The gimmick here is that not only is it essentially a one-woman show, but only five words of dialogue are spoken over the film’s 93 minutes. It’s a choice that ends up working, however, as the tension ramps up and we find ourselves feeling as trapped in the world as Brynn does. Writer Brian Duffield (‘Underwater’, Love and Monsters’) also directed this well-paced and fairly gripping film, which never gets too scary but still manages to emerge as a surprising little treat.
