It certainly makes sense that, if anyone would make a gangbusters popcorn flick about stuntmen, it would be David Leitch. The former stunt double for Brad Pitt, he then graduated to stunt coordination before becoming a director (‘Atomic Blonde’, ‘Deadpool 2’). His fifth full-length feature is (very) loosely based on the 80s TV show but stands perfectly fine in its own right as a quintessential summer movie – full of action, comedy, and (naturally) big, big stunts. Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt lead the way with all kinds of chemistry (and talent), and sure, there’s a plot kicking around in this thing somewhere, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter. It’s the definition of a grab-some-popcorn good time.
