Though the 2020 original managed to squeak by as an entertaining-enough bit of fun, this wholly necessary sequel has way too much going on to interest whoever the target audience is. (And that’s still up for debate; it’s a solidly PG-13 flick with a young teen at its center.) Sure, Dave Bautista and Chloe Coleman share a decent chemistry, and there are more than a few chuckle-worthy moments, but it’s a film that can’t seem to decide what it is—family-friendly spy caper? Not really. Edgy bit of international intrigue? Not so much. Failed exercise to continue a franchise that didn’t need it? Yeah, sounds about right.
