Peter Dinklage takes the title role and is infatuated with Haley Bennett’s Roxanne in this adaptation written by Erica Schmidt (Dinklage’s wife) and directed by Joe Wright (Bennett’s beau). It’s a grand, musical costume drama set to songs by The National brothers Aaron and Bryce Dessner, with cinematography by Seamus McGarvey (“The Greatest Showman”). So, yes, it has a lot going for it, and it delivers in spades. Moving and sweet and whimsical and heartbreaking all in one.
