It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally a film comes out of nowhere to be a completely delightful surprise. Based on a 2006 French rom-com, ‘The Valet’ mixes a little bit of ‘The Proposal’ with a little bit of ‘Notting Hill’ and winds up as a charming and funny success. Samara Weaving stars as the most popular actress in the world, and Eugenio Derbez is the titular unknown who she cons into posing as her boyfriend to help protect the married guy (Max Greenfield) she’s having an affair with. It’s bright and breezy and clever and sweet.
