This sporadically funny film about estranged sisters who need to repay their deadbeat mother’s gambling debt finds Awkwafina starring as trivia expert Anne and Sandra Oh as her equally deadbeat sister who realizes getting Anne on a game show could be their ticket. The film definitely has issues picking a lane (screwball comedy? family drama? sharp satire?) and therefore does none of them particularly well. You’ll chuckle occasionally, particularly with a handful of pseudo-cameos along the way, but overall it feels more bland and timid than the bonkers comedy it could have been.
