The thirty-third MCU movie (in the past 15 years) brings together Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) in a so-so flick that works nicely for Marvel fans but probably has little appeal to anyone else. Director and co-writer Nia DeCosta crafted an efficient film (at 105 minutes, it’s the shortest MCU film ever), but the fact that you need to have seen and digested ‘Captain Marvel’, ‘Wandavision’, ‘Ms. Marvel’, and even ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ and ‘Hawkeye’ to fully appreciate everything that’s thrown at you takes away from the idea of just going to the movies and having a fun matinee experience.
