It’s certainly not a novel idea by any means, but this ‘True Lies’ redux about a schlubby suburban dad who’s actually a government-trained assassin kinda works, more or less. Mark Wahlberg leads the way as the schlub in question, who clicks into full Jason Bourne mode when the bad guys come knocking after almost twenty years. Of course, this is all news to his family, who don’t take too kindly to the idea that he’s been hiding this particular set of skills and has now put them in mortal danger. The film never gets as funny or as bang-bang as it could have (and does suffer somewhat for it), but as a passable family(ish) film, it hits the mark.
