Written by Diablo Cody and helmed by first-time director Zelda Williams (daughter of Robin), this super-black comedy centers on a teen girl who unwittingly brings a dead young man back to life from the local graveyard. Mayhem (and carnage) ensues, and, like ‘Heathers’ and Cody’s own ‘Jennifer’s Body’ before it, this film deftly straddles the line between comedy and tragedy with more winks and nudges than a Monty Python skit. Kathryn Newton (‘Freaky’) leads the way, proving yet again that she’s got a nice career in front of her, and Cole Sprouse (barely recognizable as a crusty zombie) has a blast with his turn, too.
