About a third of the way through this odd caper about two young women on a road trip to Florida, unknowingly chased by a pair of inept criminal henchmen, you may find yourself thinking it’s a B-movie from someone trying to do their best Coen Brothers impression. Turns out you’d be half right – this lackluster dud is the first film from Ethan Coen not to involve his brother Joel. Overtly sexual and just as violent, it’s a mish-mash of a bunch of stuff, none of which adds up to anything coherent or interesting. Margaret Qualley (especially) and Geraldine Viswanathan do some fine work here, sure, but it’s as if Ethan just threw any old thing together, trying (and failing) to prove that he’s fine by himself.
