The fourth in the recent ‘Apes’ reboot series, this entry takes place ‘many generations’ after the goings-on of 2017’s ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’, and reveals that humans have devolved and the apes now rule the dystopian world. Director Wes Ball (the ‘Maze Runner’ series) has put together a decent picture, but it takes a while to get going, and then, once it does kick into gear, it winds up feeling like a fairly standard adventure flick – albeit with snazzy motion capture and high-level visual effects. It’s a quintessential take-it-or-leave-it offering… if you enjoyed the first three, you will feel right at home, but the audience appeal probably ends right there. 3/5 stars
