Presented as a bizarre and outrageous true-crime documentary about the ‘Hollywood’ bank robberies in early/mid-90s Seattle, this Netflix original winds up being a fairly straight-forward story about Scott Scurlock, an eccentric guy who was good at robbing banks. Sure, he lived in a treehouse and liked to stand around naked sometimes, but it’s almost as though the filmmakers tried really hard to make this something it wasn’t. As a doc about bank robberies, sure, it’s fine – particularly hearing from the police and also Scurlock’s accomplice – but anything more than that feels like wishful thinking.
