Adapted and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan (daughter of M. Night), this supposed suspense/horror flick is actually neither and instead plods along, heavy on mood and eeriness but not much else. The story of four people locked in a mirrored room in the Irish woods while ‘others’ watch them stand there nightly, it requires so much exposition and backstory that by the time we get around to the requisite ‘twist’, it’s hard to care anymore. (Never mind the fact that the ‘surprise’ is telegraphed from the very early stages.) There’s no denying Shyamalan has some talent as a director, but hopefully next time, she gets (or gives herself) a better script to work with.
