The prequel to John Krasinski’s 2018 and 2020 offerings, this heckuva-thriller stars Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn as folks trying to survive the early hours of the alien invasion that brought the snarly, super-hearing monsters to Earth. Writer-director Michael Sarnoski (2021’s ‘Pig’) is at the helm, working from a story he devised with Krasinski, and he puts together a solidly suspenseful flick, punctuated with just enough jump-scares to not feel like a push for cheap thrills. As with the first two films, the taut atmosphere is the real star – though Nyong’o and Quinn both turn in top-notch performances in a film that fits comfortably into the ‘A Quiet Place’ canon.
