I’m not sure if there’s an official genre for all the great British based-on-a-true-story films that take place in small towns and are full of quirky characters and are anchored by a wholly uplifting message (Waking Ned Devine, Fisherman’s Friends, Calendar Girls, etc.)… but add this one to the list. Toni Collette and Damian Lewis star as organizers of a small-village syndicate that chips in to buy a racehorse, all to help inject some life into their mundane existences. Fun and sweet and great.
