Three years in the making (after delays from a hurricane and COVID), this New Orleans-set drama stars Jennifer Lawrence as a soldier rehabbing from a traumatic brain injury. Powerful (and powerfully understated), this character-driven vehicle will remind many of her ‘Winter’s Bone’ days. It’s a raw, stripped-down performance made all the better alongside the stellar Brian Tyree Henry as a local who becomes her only friend. It may seem woefully out of place in today’s big-bang-boom Hollywood, but every so often, it’s the quiet killer that gets the job done.
