Bryce Dallas Howard stars as a cat-lady spy novelist in this all-over-the-place, wildly convoluted action comedy from director Matthew Vaughn (the ‘Kingsmen’ franchise). When the plot from her latest book hits a little too close to home, she finds herself chased by bad guys who think she might know the location of a master key holding all their secrets. Enter Sam Rockwell as a good-guy spy who swoops in to protect her. While the film does kinda find its legs in the second half (after a twist that unfortunately lands with a bit of a thud), Vaughn’s whiplash style prevents the film from getting any kind of flow going. It’s frankly exhausting and, though it does have its fun moments, never really comes together as a complete package.
