Based on the bestselling novel by Delia Owen, this mystery-romance plays like a watered-down mash-up of Nicholas Sparks and John Grisham. Yes, Daisy Edgar-Jones turns in a fine performance as Kya, the so-called Marsh Girl, who raises herself in a North Carolina swamp and finds herself accused of murder, but beyond that, there’s little here to recommend. I haven’t read the book, but I can imagine it offers a lot more than this puddle-deep exercise in heartstring-pulling.
