For a company built on the spirit of imagination and creativity, Disney sure has had its share of unoriginal clunkers recently, particularly in the live-action department. Hot on the heels of last summer’s awful ‘Cruella’, we now get Robert Zemeckis’ update of ‘Pinocchio’. I’m not sure anyone asked for it, and—it’s clear from the outset— no one needs it. Sure, Tom Hanks is an apt Geppetto (in what amounts to a cameo), and Luke Evans steals the show as the Coachman, but there’s nothing here otherwise that comes close to outshining the 1940 original. It’s wholly unnecessary and not at all worth the time. And my nose didn’t grow at all saying that.
