Actor Jake Johnson (‘New Girl’) makes his directing debut with this allegory about loneliness in a desperate world—starring as Tommy, a guy living a drone-like, solitary existence who gets offered the chance to win a million dollars by Andy Samberg (playing himself). The proposition is simple enough: survive for thirty days as a group of ‘hunters’ try to kill you. The catch? You’re safe, as long as you’re with someone else. While it never gets as nutty (or nail-biting) as it should have, it still lands as a fun and often whack-a-doodle ride, particularly when Anna Kendrick arrives on the scene as a fellow contestant in the game.
